Golf Cart Injuries on the Rise

Gold carts or golf cart type vehicles are being used more and more these days for several reasons. Unfortunately injuries from their use are on the rise.

In findings published in the June issue of the Journal of Trauma: Injury, Infection and Critical Care, UAB researchers found that there were more than 48,255 golf-cart related injuries between 2002 and 2005, with the highest injury rates observed in males 10-19 years old and those older than 80 years old.

The use of golf carts in industrial settings has also created safety issues. When a cart collides with another vehicle, the cart always loses. This has prompted OSHA to look at setting safety standards in such vehicles.
